Darwin Transmission Towers Replacement

Gateway Energy

Project: Darwin Transmission Towers Replacement

Owner: Power and Water

Engineering Contractor: MG Electrical

Project Location: Darwin, Northern Territory (NT), Australia

Design Location: Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

Background: This Darwin based project involved replacement of single circuit 132kV lattice towers with dual circuit poles. The new circuit was designed to 132kV but energised to 66kV.

Detail: Gateway Energy worked with line designer and foundation designer to engineer some fit for purpose high strength poles to 36m high able to function in this cyclonic wind region.

Benefits: Our high strength poles enabled construction of foundations and erection of pole base sections prior to de-energisation of the existing line which minimised the outage to customers and construction times.  Due to our in-depth construction knowledge, we were able to provide valuable design inputs to eliminate load changes on adjacent existing structures and fixtures to optimise the construction method.

Other Locations: Gateway Energy also supplies similar projects in Townsville, Gladstone, Mt Isa, Cairns – Queensland (QLD), Adelaide, Whyalla – South Australia (SA)
